July’s New Moon in tropical Cancer is a “super new moon,” meaning the Moon is closer to the Earth at its perigee, similar to a super full moon, except the Moon is not visible. This has a significant gravitational effect resulting in higher-than-normal ocean tides, and emotionally and synchronistically, perhaps much more.

The Moon is exceptionally strong in its home sign of Cancer, and therefore, we can feel the significance of this Moon more than usual as a notable restart and new beginning in the year, one also involving Mercury’s retrograde alignment with this New Moon. Combined with the Cancer symbolism, the past and a degree of nostalgia are likely to emerge in an emotionally significant way here.

We may find ourselves returning to something familiar, though not exactly, and perhaps more subtly, in the form of a feeling, atmosphere, or mood. The benefit, however, is the ability to approach familiar situations with wisdom and better discernment, especially involving anything that is emerging right now.

Saturn’s square to the lunation adds some degree of difficulty also, and combined with Mercury’s (retrograde) conjunction, some sense of things falling apart, breaking down, or revealing some weakness or vulnerability. Yet, the broader symbolism of this New Moon is to feel deeply into critical processes occurring in your life and make adjustments so things can move more smoothly going forward.

This may not be the most ideal New Moon for taking off with something requiring ultimate control or stability. In fact, control is not readily available here, but we can always trust the flow of things, practice surrender, and move along with the current. That will always make the hard things easier to accept and manage. There may be a lot on the back burner right now, but trust that things will eventually take a more definite form in the near future.
