August's New Moon is the first of two New Moons this year to occur in tropical Virgo, the second being a partial solar eclipse on September 21, occurring on the Aries Point axis and opposing the Saturn-Neptune alignment. The solar eclipse represents a more powerful transition, starting point, and restart in the year, but August's New Moon is our gateway to this transformative lunar cycle.

August's New Moon may be a rather abrupt transition from the delayed and potentially stagnant energies of previous weeks. It cuts through much of our routinized approaches and guides us (gradually) to a new vision we can practically implement in our lives. However, two quincunxes to the New Moon from Pluto and Saturn-Neptune also reflect a frustrating crossfire between a desire for liberation and larger societal or transpersonal forces that impede quick results.

Uranus' square to the Virgo New Moon suggests we're challenged to initiate a fresh start in several endeavors, especially those that involve a fine-tuning of details, gaining greater competence and proficiency, and humbly updating skills, workflow, health, and self-care. With Virgo, there's always room for improvement, and Uranus suggests that something has to give.

Be conscious of the likely unpredictable directions that new endeavors will take from here, and the dramatic changes they'll endure over the following month. Embrace more spontaneity and creative detours with this energy rather than a straight and stable path to your goals. While there may be more to work through and resolve, with some extra focus and effort, we can push through to new ground.
